Cazenovia Central School District welcomes Mr. Ben New as its newly appointed Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Mr. New started working in his position on Monday, April 23, 2018.
Cazenovia School’s Superintendent, Mr. Matt Reilly is very pleased with the hire and states, “Ben New stood out among a deep pool of applicants. His experience and vision make him the perfect choice to direct curriculum and instruction initiatives in the district. I look forward to watching the district’s continued growth as a result of his leadership.”
According to New, “It is very exciting to become a member of the Cazenovia Central School District as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Having been in education for the past 17 years, this opportunity is a life-long dream. I have been blessed with the opportunity of continuing my career in our excellent district as the leader of exceptional educators. My focus will be to work with the dedicated staff to continue to provide outstanding learning experiences for our students. One significant priority during my transitional time, is to establish meaningful working relationships with the students, staff and community.”
Before becoming a district administrator in Cazenovia, Mr. New spent 15 years working within the Chittenango Central School District. During this time, he taught 8th grade technology for eight years while also coaching varsity wrestling, junior varsity football and modified lacrosse. In 2009, New transitioned into an administrative role and during the next seven years served in a number of administrative capacities including: Bolivar Road Elementary Principal, Lake Street Elementary Principal, Middle School Assistant Principal and High School Assistant Principal.
In January 2017, he ventured out of the Chittenango school district and became the Middle/High Principal at Morrisville-Eaton.
New continues, “I have thoroughly enjoyed my administrative experience at all three building levels and am excited to use this experience to help our students at Cazenovia continue to achieve high levels of success.”
New holds a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University, a master’s degree from SUNY Oswego and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from SUNY Cortland. Christina New, Ben’s spouse is the business teacher at the high school and they are both proud parents of Alexandra, who is a second grader at Burton Street, Caroline (4) and Christian (2).
