At the June 15th Board of Education Meeting, the Cazenovia School Board approved the recommendations from Mr. Reilly, Superintendent of Schools for Mrs. Kara May to become the new Principal at Burton Street Elementary School, and for Ms. Amy Getman-Herringshaw to become the new Middle School Principal.
May is replacing Mrs. Mary-Ann MacIntosh, who is retiring after 16 years of service in the post at Burton Street. Getman-Herringshaw is replacing Dr. Jean Regan, who has served the District for the past 35 years as a teacher/coach, Assistant High School Principal and Middle School Principal, where she spent the majority of her career at CCSD. MacIntosh and Regan will retire from the District on June 30.
We introduce both Mrs. May and Ms. Getman-Herringshaw below, and wish them well as they start their new positions:
The Cazenovia Central School District is pleased to welcome Kara May to the Burton Street Elementary School as the new Principal. Mrs. May comes to the position with 11 years of experience as a school psychologist. Mrs. May has been with the Cazenovia District since 2016 in the capacity of a school psychologist, district behavior specialist and special education department chair. She is a member of the Strategic Planning Core team and was Facilitator for the Individual and Organizational Wellness Task Force. She is a member of the district Mental Health Team, Multi-Tiered System of Supports Committee and district Safety Team. Mrs. May was nominated as teacher of the year in both 2018 and 2019.
Prior to her tenure at Cazenovia, she was a school psychologist in the North Syracuse Central School District. Mrs. May received her Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Geneseo, her Masters and Certificate of Advanced Study in School Psychology from SUNY Oswego and her Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from SUNY Cortland.
Mrs. May is a proud wife and mother of two young girls, one of whom will be entering first grade at Burton Street in the fall.
Mrs. May states, “I am honored and excited to begin my journey as the Burton Street principal and I look forward to collaborating with teachers, parents and community members.”
The Cazenovia Central School District is pleased to welcome Amy Getman-Herringshaw to the District as Cazenovia Middle School Principal. Getman-Herringshaw has spent her educational career in the Fayetteville-Manlius School District as a teacher, coach, and administrator. For the last five years, she has been an assistant principal at Eagle Hill Middle School. Prior to administration, Getman-Herringshaw taught sixth grade for 10 years at Wellwood Middle School. She received undergraduate and graduate education degrees at Niagara University where she also played Division I basketball. Before she began her career in education, Getman-Herringshaw played professional basketball overseas.
Getman-Herringshaw states, “Living in Cazenovia for the last 13 years has been a highlight for my family. I currently reside in the community with my husband, Adam and three daughters – Janna, Jemma, and Jade. I am on the Cazenovia Youth Basketball League Board (CYAA) and have had the pleasure of coaching basketball at the elementary and middle school levels.”
Getman-Herringshaw also stated, “I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to lead Cazenovia Middle School. I look forward to working together to continue the rich traditions and commitment to educational excellence.”
