CONTACT: Mrs. Kathleen DiNardo, 655-1324 COST: Free The Cazenovia High School Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Kathleen DiNardo, will be presenting its 13th Annual Jazz Night on Tuesday, March 31st at 7:30 PM. The Hartwick College Jazz Ensemble, directed by Gregg Norris, will be working with our Jazz Ensemble during the day and will be featured on our concert at night. The Hartwick College Jazz Ensemble, in addition to performing concerts on campus, regularly tours the upstate region. The ensemble provides students with opportunities to explore both contemporary, as well as historically important big band literature. The group provides a venue for tight ensemble playing, improvisation, and showcasing outstanding individual talent. The ensemble performs various jazz ensemble pieces selected from literature which may include swing, cool, bop, Latin, Samba, funk/rock, and other pertinent styles. Gregg Norris earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education from Hartwick College (Oneonta, NY) in 1984, and his Masterʼs Degree in Social Sciences from Binghamton University in 1991. He has been the senior high band director in the Sidney Central School District since 1985. Among his current responsibilities are directing the junior and senior high concert bands, jazz ensemble and marching band. He is also chapter advisor to the Sidney High School Tri-M Music Honor Society. Mr. Norris has been a guest conductor for music festivals in Chenango, Delaware, Fulton, Greene and Schoharie Counties in New York, as well as Berks County PA. He was also a guest conductor at the Hartwick College Summer Music Festival in Oneonta, New York. Mr. Norris is a past NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) All-State Instrumental Jazz Chair, and is also a certified adjudicator for both jazz and brass. He is an active member of the Association of Chenango Area Music Teachers (ACAMT), having served as both President and Vice-President. Eager to give back to his “roots,” Mr. Norris has served Hartwick College as an adjunct professor since 1993, where he originally taught brass methods to music education majors. He has also been working with student teachers in the music education program at Hartwick College since 1987. He became conductor of the Jazz Ensemble in the fall of 2014. Mr. Norris is also a 1984 graduate of Cazenovia High School and we are excited to welcome him back! The Jazz Night concert begins at 7:30 p.m., in the Cazenovia High School auditorium and is free and open to the public. Please join the Jazz Ensemble for an exciting evening of Jazz!
