Cazenovia High School has announced the valedictorian and salutatorian of the Class of 2014. ValedictorianKevin Hopsicker, son of Michael and Laurie Hopsicker, has been named valedictorian of the Class of 2014. Kevin has played varsity football and basketball and JV lacrosse; participated on Cazenovia High School’s Envirothon; is a member of the National Honor Society; and served as class secretary. He was voted a New York State Class B Scholar Athlete of the Year by the High School Football Coaches Association; received the Harvard Book Award and a Bausch and Lomb Scholarship, for excellence in science, in 2013; was recognized as a Section III Scholar-Athlete by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA); was head of the “Pop Warner Tower Crew” and announced for Pop Warner football games; and served as a Cazenovia Youth Athletic Association (CYAA) basketball coach. He plans to study economics and computer science at Middlebury College, and is considering a career in investment banking. His older brother, Jeff, graduated in 2011. Younger siblings Katie and Morgan still attend Cazenovia schools. “It is very rewarding and I am very honored,” Kevin said. “It is nice to know that all my hard work and effort has paid off. I feel lucky to have been able to grow up in Cazenovia and pass through the Cazenovia school system. I really enjoyed all the people I met and experiences I had throughout my high school journey.” Salutatorian Emma Katherine Dudley, daughter of Jill and Andrew Dudley, has been named salutatorian of the Class of 2014. Emma was a member of the indoor and outdoor track teams (shot put); the Cazenovia High School Shakespeare Club; played violin in the school’s pit orchestras; was an honors competitor on the school’s Academic Decathlon team; and served as a student tutor. She received the St. Lawrence University Junior Book Award, was an Academic Decathlon national medalist (interview category) and was selected to attend the American Legion Auxiliary’s Empire Girls State Program. She works with children ages 6 months to 11 years as a family prime-time assistant at the East Area Family YMCA. She plans to study pre-med and Spanish at the University of Rochester, and aspires to a career as a pediatrician. Her older brother, Matt, graduated in 2010. Younger sister Claire is a member of the Cazenovia High School Class of 2015. “Throughout my high school career, there were more than a few long nights of studying when I asked myself if my work would pay off,” Emma said. “The feeling that it has is incredible and makes me very excited for the future. My time at Cazenovia High School has been fantastic. I feel totally prepared for college and whatever else lies ahead.” Congratulations, Emma and Kevin!
