The 2015 Central New York Regional Scholastic Art Awards, the local championship for scholastic artists, took place this January & February at OCC. The Central New York (CNY) region, has conducted an annual Scholastic Art Awards program for more than 70 years. Our region covers a very large geographic area – 13 counties and almost 400 eligible schools in CNY. Each year we bring in almost 5,000 pieces of art from about 200 teachers and between 80 to 100 individual schools, making our program one of the largest in the country. This year Cazenovia had over 45 hard working students participate, with 19 coming away with an award. The students competed in painting, drawing, printmaking, computer art, sculpture, photography for grades 9-12 and portfolios in fine art and photography for seniors. The Cazenovia High School winners were: Suzu Davis, Anjali Harris, Elizabeth Rankin, Delaney Yates, Victoria Eshbaugh, Ava Gurney, & Kelly Slocum. The Gold Key Winners were: Jack Strong, Kelly Johnson, Janie Kempf, and Erin Paglia, which went on to compete at the National level in Washington DC. widgetkit id=6291Participants from the Scholastic Art Show and the rest of the 2014-2015 Cazenovia Art Students will have their work hung at the Cazenovia College Art Gallery for the 2015 Cazenovia High School Art Show, June 1 & 2 from 7-9 p.m. Please come and celebrate the wonderful art created this year by our students and to honor Mr. Bill Paben, as he retires this year for all his years of mentoring and inspiration to his students and peers. The program has flourished with Mr. Paben. He has been as our creative and selfless leader in the art room and community. We will miss him.
