A Letter to the Faculty & Staff by Superintendent Reilly: 10/17/14 Good Afternoon,
I would like to take a moment to share some outstanding news for which you are all in part responsible. Our district has been recognized by Buffalo Business First for our academic achievement. Of the 432 Upstate NY school districts, Cazenovia ranked #5 for our academic performance. As I said on the opening day of school “It takes a village”. We succeed together, we celebrate together, we work together, to make every child successful. Congratulations and thank you for your work!
Remember however another belief I shared on opening day: “Strive,” we must never be complacent or content with our success.Although I have been here only a relatively short time, I already recognize that academic rankings are only part of the story. Buffalo First’s methodology has no measure for service, no measure of compassion, no measure for the strength and creativity of our students. In fact, they are unable to measure so much of what we value and instill: humor, curiosity, effort, passion, poise, manners, respect, humanitarianism, kindness or any of the other admirable traits that our students possess in abundance. I appreciate the accolade because we are certainly a district of excellence, but I believe that were it possible to calculate excellence using all the varied areas in which our students excel, Cazenovia would most certainly be ranked even higher. There is a trend in education to attempt to quantify everything, and though I understand, and even ascribe to data driven decisions, we know that our students are more than a collection of numbers. Thank you for all you have done, and all that you will do, to make our schools the best they can be!
Have a great weekend,
