Student artwork on display at New Woodstock Library

Screen shot 2013-08-22 at 4.18.45 PMIt’s beginning to look a lot like… an art museum at the New Woodstock Library, thanks to the annual exhibition of student artwork from Cazenovia Middle and Burton Street Elementary schools. The student art show, which opened Dec. 1 and stays on display through Jan. 31, has been a regular attraction at the library for more than 15 years. This year’s exhibit features watercolor landscapes, optical illusion “handscapes,” charcoal and chalk still lifes, split portraits, plaster gauze creations, and masterpieces of oil pastels, crayon, colored pencils, markers and collage. Organized by Burton Street Elementary School art teacher Mary Damon and Cazenovia Middle School art teacher Johanna Neugebauer, the show temporarily takes over the walls of the library, said Kelly Roberts, children’s coordinator at New Woodstock Library. So while patrons browse for a copy of “The Latke Who Couldn’t Stop Screaming” by Lemony Snicket or “When Santa Fell to Earth” by Cornelia Funke, they might just walk past a plaster gauze mask molded from a student’s face or an ethereal farmland panorama.
