Seven seniors at Cazenovia High School were recently recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) for their scholastic talents, including one student who will compete for potential scholarship opportunities moving forward.

Cazenovia High School Principal Molly Hagan recently announced that seniors Sophie Clancy, Anna Edwards, Willem Light-Olson, Melanie Michael, Benjamin Orbach, and Nadia Segall have been named Commended Students in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program.

A Letter of Commendation from the school and NMSC, which conducts the program, was presented by Hagan to these scholastically talented seniors.

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue the 2022 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2022 competition by taking the 2020 preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

“Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” said NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation.”

Moreover, student Morgan Kingsley was named a semifinalist in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program. Kingsley is one of approximately 16,000 semifinalists for the program, which provides students with the opportunity to compete for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $30 million that will be offered next spring.
