Dear Cazenovia Families and Staff,
In an effort to provide as much information as possible regarding the District’s COVID-19 situation, we have created a data dashboard that will allow users to track daily changes to the metrics that are used in the decision making process of the state, county, and district. Please note that the listing of “students and/or staff absent or leaving school early due to experiencing possible symptoms of COVID-19” includes just those individuals identified on that day and not a cumulative number (this is consistent with the daily data the District must report to NYS).
In addition to the data that appears on the dashboard, another factor that is taken into consideration when making decisions regarding transitioning to remote learning includes the district’s ability to staff classrooms, buses, and other essential areas with qualified individuals. This factor has driven other districts to move to remote learning and could force our hand as well. Lastly, while the protocols in place for health and safety of our school community have been effective in creating a safe environment, we must remember and attend to the mental health of our school community as well. The unsettling nature of frequent transitions between in-person and remote instruction coupled with the increased burden placed on students and teachers in these times may play a role in the deciding whether or not to transition to remote learning and for what duration.
I hope you find this tool useful in understanding both the extent of the District’s COVID-19 situation and the factors that are weighed in making decisions about the mode of instruction.
