Parents and Guardians of Cazenovia High School Juniors,
The Cazenovia Central School District, along with the Cazenovia High School English Department, would like to announce that all 11th grade English students will be taking the Common Core English Regents Exam on Tuesday, January 21st, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. This exciting change from the traditional June testing date will allow students to complete their English Regents Exam (a skills-based assessment) mid-year, enabling more time to be dedicated to their content-based Regents and AP exams at the end of the year, decreasing stress and testing anxiety.
In addition, an earlier Regents testing date will assist the High School English Department to identify at-risk students who might need more intensive intervention, such as AIS support, to pass the required exit exam.
Students have been preparing for the English Regents Exam since their 9th grade English course, focusing on reading comprehension strategies and the writing tasks that will appear on the Regents exam. All English 11 courses will spend the first half of this year, ensuring that students are prepared to be successful for the test in January. Furthermore, this summer the 9th through 11th English teachers completed an EAC Grant that more closely aligns the Cazenovia High School English curriculum to prepare 11th grade students for this earlier testing date.
We look forward to the fresh school year ahead and to this incredible opportunity for our 11th grade students!
