Dear Cazenovia Middle School Families,

I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer. I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to lead Cazenovia Middle School. I have been dedicated to the field of education and find that middle school is a wonderful place to be. I started my educational career in the Fayetteville-Manlius School District where I taught 6th grade for 10 years and was a middle school assistant principal for five years. Before starting my educational career, I played Professional European Basketball which provided great opportunities to experience different cultures and traditions.

On a personal note, my family and I have lived in Cazenovia for over 14 years. I have three children in the school district as well. You may have seen me or my husband coaching on the basketball court or out on the field for soccer. We very much appreciate the activities and traditions that make Cazenovia a wonderful place to live.

As a parent, I share in the thoughtfulness that is needed to make informed decisions for the upcoming school year. The health, safety, and well-being of the students and staff in our school is paramount. Cazenovia School District submitted a reopening plan on July 31st which outlines how the district will respond given the three different instructional options: in-person, hybrid, and remote. This plan is posted on the website. If you have any questions you are welcome to contact me directly or submit questions to covid19questions@caz.cnyric.org. You can also find information on the link below where the District will post all correspondences and educational materials related to re-opening: https://cazenoviacsd.com/parent-resources/parent-resources-all/covid-19/.

We expect this week that the Governor will announce his decision about the capacity in which schools can reopen. Based on this information, we will be asking families to make a commitment to either in-person or remote instruction. A survey will be sent to collect these responses as well as other essential data for students’ return to school.

Please know we are currently working on a master schedule that is supportive and safe for our students. With the current changes and configurations, class lists and supply lists might be altered; we appreciate your flexibility and understanding. We will share any updates.

I look forward to working with you as a team to help each student at Cazenovia Middle School have a successful year. If you have any questions or would like to talk about the upcoming school year, please don’t hesitate to call me. I am including here the new [Principal’s Page] link where you can find this message, along with other Middle School News.

Best Regards,

Amy Getman-Herringshaw
