On September 26, 2019, Ms. Claudia Johnson and Mr. Kyle Martin’s Earth Science classes at the High School traveled to Herkimer Diamond Mines as part of the Mineral and Rock Unit. This trip has been a long standing tradition that many Cazenovia Earth Science students have taken part in over the years. Even a very rainy day would not dampen the enthusiasm of the students looking for crystals. Herkimer is the site where beautiful double-terminated quartz crystals are found that are close to 500 million years old. The site has a new education center and the staff did a great job of explaining the geology of the area and how to find Herkimer Diamonds. Thank you to Mrs. Hagan and Mr. Reilly and all the chaperones for supporting this field trip that is so popular and educational!
