
Superintendent Search Stakeholder Survey (Updated)
A Board of Education has a collective, explicit responsibility to hire and evaluate the district superintendent, which we take very seriously in order to maintain educational excellence.
Board members met with Matt Cook, EdD, District Superintendent of Schools, Sole Supervisory District of Onondaga – Cortland – Madison Counties, and enlisted OCM BOCES consulting services to assist in the superintendent search effort at a special meeting on January 19.
The Board feels it is critical to obtain input including desired qualifications, skills and experiences of the next superintendent from students, parents/guardians, district staff and the community. An online survey is posted on the District’s website through Friday, February 5th. The survey link is: CCSD Superintendent Survey link
We strongly encourage all to respond. In addition, the consultant will meet with stakeholder focus groups in the coming weeks. More information about those meetings will be forthcoming. The next superintendent selection process meeting will be held Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom (the link will be available from this webpage: Zoom Link).
The Board has carefully weighed the option of conducting an open versus a confidential search. With an open search, three finalists are interviewed by committees comprised of representatives from the community, parents, students and staff. In a confidential search, the Board seeks stakeholder input with regard to the characteristics and qualifications for the next superintendent and then works to ensure the confidentiality of the candidates while taking into account input received from the stakeholders through the survey and focus groups.
The Board would like to ensure that the search draws a deep pool of highly qualified candidates and understands that confidentiality may be critical for successful candidates who do not want to jeopardize their current positions. After thoughtful and careful deliberation, the Board selected the option to hold a confidential search. This emphasizes the importance that stakeholders respond to the survey.
Our goal is to appoint a new superintendent in May, with a start date on July 1, 2021.
