Varsity teams achieve Scholar-Athlete status
All eight of Cazenovia Central Schools’ fall varsity teams – which include boys’ soccer, girls’ cross-country, girls’ tennis, football, girls’ soccer, boys’ cross-country, field hockey and volleyball – have achieved Scholar-Athlete status.
To qualify for the prestigious designation by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, a minimum number of each team’s players must have at least a 90-percent grade point average during the season.
If all varsity sports achieve Scholar-Athlete status in a given academic year, the school earns a “School of Distinction” award, according to Athletic Director Michael Byrnes.
“One of our annual goals in the athletic department is to have all varsity teams earn NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete status,” Mr. Byrnes said. “We couldn’t be more proud of our well-rounded Lakers, for excelling in the classroom as well on the field of play.”
Go, Lakers!
Note: A listing of the individual athletes who earned scholar-athlete status will appear in the upcoming December edition of the Blue and Gold Newsletter.
