Oct. 29, 2024 Burton Street Elementary School students follow the acronym LAKER throughout the year, discovering a character trait from each letter. Early this school year, faculty and staff jumped to the letter A, which stands for always safe.  "Safety is a top priority," said Burton Street Principal Cristina Knapp. "Even as leaders, we use this time to evaluate and improve safety protocols and procedures for the school." Cazenovia community celebrates Phase 2 completion of athletic complex Cazenovia community celebrates Phase 2 completion of athletic complex: Ribbon cutting, photo by Madeline Caraher Oct. 11, 2024   Blue and yellow filled the stands of Cazenovia Central School District’s athletic complex for Homecoming 2024, which featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of the district’s athletic complex.  The first phase of the athletic complex finished the practice field, now referred to as the upper field, in fall 2023, and the lower stadium field and track completed this fall, was the last phase of the project.  The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on Oct. 5 on the Buckley-Volo Field after the football game and before the girl’s varsity soccer game. Board approves merger exploration feasibility study; funding needed to move forward Board approves merger exploration feasibility study; funding needed to move forward: Sept. 23, 2024 The Cazenovia Central School District Board of Education approved a resolution for a merger exploration feasibility study during its regular meeting on Sept. 16.  “The board taking this action does not mean we will merge. Nothing has been decided,” said Superintendent Christopher DiFulvio. “It simply means we are taking the next step towards getting more information on whether a merger would benefit our students and community members so they can then give us feedback on whether we should continue down this path.”   A feasibility study could cost up to $100,000 and be a shared cost between the two districts. 2024-25 school tax rates established 2024-25 school tax rates established: Aug. 16, 2024 The Cazenovia Central School District Board of Education approved 2024-25 tax rates for school district residents at its Aug. 12 meeting. For the most part, the rates are lower than the projected worst-case scenarios presented during budget season. The primary factors that determine final tax rates are the school tax levy, towns’ assessed values and equalization rates. Tax rates are then used to calculate the amount each property owner ultimately pays in school taxes. Tax rates may vary from town to town because every year the New York State Office of Real Property Tax Services assigns an equalization rate for each municipality that creates an assessment value equal to its full market value. Provide Rockefeller Institute with State Education Funding Formula input by Sept. 6 Provide Rockefeller Institute with State Education Funding Formula input by Sept. 6: Aug. 15, 2024 The Rockefeller Institute of Government at SUNY is conducting a study of the state’s Foundation Aid formula for schools. The formula is used to determine how much money is allocated to each school district across the state.  As part of the study, researchers are collecting written comments until Friday, Sept. 6 , through an online form and conducting multiple hearings across the state for public comment. The Institute has until Dec. 1, 2024, to assess the formula and submit recommendations to the state, which could include formula modifications. District secures funding for facility upgrades; improvements coming to Hazel’s Path District secures funding for facility upgrades; improvements coming to Hazel’s Path: Aug. 14, 2024 Thanks to assistance from Assemblyman Al Stirpe, the Cazenovia Central School District will receive $300,000 in state aid to help cover some future facility upgrades, including improvements to Hazel’s Path at Burton Street Elementary School.  Before the path was completed in 2023, adaptive playground equipment installed by the PTA was inaccessible to people with limited mobility due to mulch chips. The handicap accessible concrete pathway was requested by Hazel Shaw’s family. Hazel, 13, was a Cazenovia Middle School student. Board adopts 2024-25 District Safety Plan Board adopts 2024-25 District Safety Plan: Aug. 13, 2024 The Cazenovia Central School District board of education adopted the 2024-25 District Safety Plan during a regular meeting on Monday, Aug. 12.  The district and board of education evaluates the district safety plan each year in accordance with New York state’s Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (S.A.V.E.) Law. Having a comprehensive plan in place is a critical component of school management and student safety.  The district presented the proposed plan to the board of education and held a public hearing during the July 8 board meeting. Public comments were collected through Monday, Aug. 12.

The track is getting a new coating and cannot be walked on until further notice. Please use the middle school circle entrance to access the upper field while this work continues. ParentSquare to implement multi-factor authentication (MFA) ParentSquare to implement multi-factor authentication (MFA): The ParentSquare platform is moving to multi-factor authentication, a process by which a user verifies their identity. This can be done by entering a verification code during login that is sent via text message or email.  MFA will be slowly rolled out to all users after the 2024-25 school year begins. MFA is becoming a standard security measure and helps protect your ParentSquare account and personal information from unauthorized users. A troubleshooting page can be found here .
