RUNNING FOR A SEAT ON THE BOARD OF EDUCATION IN 2026
Members of the Board of Education are elected to serve a three (3) year, unpaid, non-partisan term. The Board of Education consists of seven (7) voting members, the Superintendent of Schools (ex officio) and a Student Member (ex officio). Those who are interested in running for election can find useful information in our Policies and on NYSSBA's website.
Nominating petition packets are below (three parts), and hard copies can be obtained from the District Clerk. You do not have to use the petition provided by the District, however, petitions must be notarized and filed with the District Clerk no later than 30 days prior to the election, April 20, 2026 at 5:00 pm. The District Clerk is a Notary Public and this service is free. Ballots go into production the following day.
Important for 2026: According to Policy 1210, nominating petitions must be signed by at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters, or by two percent (2%) of the number of voters who voted in the previous annual election, whichever was greater. On May 20, 2025, a total of 1,587 ballots were cast; therefore, petitions in 2026 will require a minimum of thirty-two (32) signatures.
On May 19, 2026, there will be three (3) seats listed on the ballot: two (2) terms that will expire on June 30, 2029, and one (1) term that will expire on June 30, 2028 due to a mid-term vacancy. The two candidates with the most votes will serve the terms expiring in 2029, and the candidate with the third-most votes will serve the term expiring in 2028.
