Voters approve revised 2024-25 school budget
On June 18, residents approved Cazenovia Central School District’s revised $38.4 million budget proposal with a tax levy limit of 4.02%.Voters approved the revised budget 1127 to 546.
“We’re thankful to the community for passing this revised budget and supporting our schools. It was a difficult budget season, and we’re thankful for everyone who has been involved throughout the process,” said Superintendent Christopher DiFulvio. “Although we need to make some reductions under this revised budget, we will continue to provide our students with the best educational experience possible. We’re looking forward to the year ahead.”
The revised spending plan includes a reduction of $400,000 compared to the proposal that voters rejected by 34 votes on May 21. It required a simple majority vote for authorization rather than the supermajority the previous proposal needed.
To reduce the budget by $400,000, the district will cut a reading teacher, an instructional coach, and make reductions to athletics and technology. In addition, the district has fewer participating employees in its health insurance, which results in a cost reduction.
If voters had rejected the proposal a second time, the district would have had to enact a contingent budget under state law.
